NAIOP Is Now the Commercial Real Estate Development Association
Name change reflects the evolution of services provided to diverse membership of thousands of commercial real estate professionals nationally and hundreds within the NYC Metro Chapter, representing all 5 boroughs and surrounding Suburban New York and Connecticut Counties
July 1, 2026—After nearly six decades as NAIOP, the leading global professional organization for the commercial real estate industry today announced its name change to the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (CREDA). Serving more than 22,000 across North America and several hundred within the NYC Metro Chapter with networking, education, advocacy and other services, the organization’s new name represents the expansion of membership expertise beyond its industrial and office roots and continued emphasis on members’ professional development.
Today, CREDA members include leading real estate practitioners across retail, multifamily, data centers, life sciences, industrial, hospitality, healthcare, office and many other property sectors. While the organization's name has changed, the mission remains the same: advancing commercial real estate development through advocacy, education, research and networking.
“Our new name better reflects the industry we represent and our commitment to serving both current and future members,” said Jill B. Richardson, NYC Metro Chapter President. “With this rebrand we have reinforced our distinct voice and network within the industry and hope to continue to elevate our position as a trusted and influential voice in policymaking on local, state and federal levels.”
CREDA’s NYC Metro Chapter was founded in 2008 and merged with the Connecticut and NY suburban chapters in 2025 to become the preeminent commercial real estate-focused organization in the region. Today, more than 250 members operate across all five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties, as well as Fairfield County, CT.
CREDA NYC Metro Chapter's Government Affairs presence represents the interests of the commercial real estate industry on a national, regional and local level. The organization's Developing Leaders program is dedicated to providing emerging industry professionals aged 35 and under with programs and educational services that further their growth and business development within the real estate industry.
The NYC Metro chapter is the fastest growing in the country and in 2025 was recognized by the national organization as Chapter of the Year for excellence in programming, membership growth, advocacy and industry impact. Tim Oberweger was recognized at the same ceremony for outstanding contributions by a chapter executive.
Over the last year, the chapter has met with State officials in Albany and Federal representatives in Washington D.C. representing New York and Connecticut to advocate for increased infrastructure funding in the tri-state area, incentives to support office-to-residential conversions, streamlining review processes to accelerate development and measures to help building owners achieve their electrification and decarbonization goals. This Spring, the chapter launched its inaugural University Challenge, which will be an annual case competition for graduate students to help reimage urban commercial development.
On September 9, CREDA NYC Metro will host its annual NYCFC Citi Field Takeover, which is the chapter’s largest event each year, offering a fun night of networking, food, drinks and exclusive access at the venue during an MLS game.
Founding CREDA NYC Metro Chapter sponsorships are still available. For more information, please contact chapter Chief of Staff Tim Oberweger at [email protected].
